Spending

Williams is a different college from what it was ten years ago in a number of ways. One is that the student body has become much more socio-economically diverse. That’s the main reason why the percentage of our operating spending devoted to financial aid has grown from 13% to 21%. We also in the past decade increased significantly the size of the faculty and staff. As a result, spending on compensation has gone from 48% to 50%. Spending on managers’ budgets also increased but not at the same rate as those other categories.
